Scott Speed is a good stock car/truck racer. (I’m purposely making the distinction here to not lump in his Formula One Series career). Four wins in the Arca Re/Max Series. One win in the Camping World Truck Series. Eight top-10’s in the Nationwide Series. Scott was able to keep the Red Bull Toyota in the top-35 in owner’s points in 2009 and that is a good thing. He will have the guarantee of making the first five races of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and hopefully gain a foothold high enough in the points to not struggle to make the race each week. Actually, Scott is a decent enough qualifier. He had six top-10 starting spots including two outside-poles in 2009. Speed has the problem of moving backwards in the race rather then forward. Plus, his DNFs are mostly the result of crashes rather then mechanical failure.

Scott Speed is not your typical NASCAR driver. Painted toe-nails, pedicures and wearing his hat ‘gangsta style’ makes him not the typical NASCAR fans cup of tea. Where can Scott help you on your fantasy NASCAR team? Chances are he won’t. Like so many Tier-Three/Group C (D or E) drivers it will depend on the specific rules of your game. It is all dependent of what other drivers are in his same group. If you need to one-and-done pick drivers from a group then a plus with Speed is he will race all season long. If it is a salary-cap game, chances are other drivers may do better at his price-point. If it is the Yahoo! style A, B, C group game then watch for the tracks that Scott has performed best at (Homestead-Miami & Lowe’s) and try him there.
