Michael Waltrip continued to see his Michael Waltrip Racing team improve in 2009. Except for his own #55 NAPA team. Michael Waltrip never matched the skill and success of his older brother, Darrell Waltrip, on the track. But, off the track Micheal is a marketing genius. Never afraid to make fun of himself, it was this NAPA commercial that set the tone for me as to the ‘never take yourself too seriously’ character of Michael Waltrip.

Martin Truex Jr is taking the reigns of the (now) #56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota from Michael Waltrip in 2010. Mikey currently plans to only run the four restrictor plate races in 2010.

Michael learned the ‘art of the draft’ while at Dale Earnhardt, Inc. Waltrip has 4 wins in his career and they are all restrictor plate races (3 Daytona & 1 Talladega). If picking Michael for your fantasy team locks him in or costs you a trade then he is not for you because of his 4-race schedule. Otherwise, if you can use him at a restrictor plate race (make sure qualifying doesn’t get rained out) then he can benefit your team at those tracks. You get a great restrictor plate racer and you also don’t use up one of your other drivers in a race that could turn out to be a waste because of the Big One.
