It wasn’t just the 5 DNF’s that Martin Truex Jr had in 2009 that landed him his worst NASCAR point standings finish (23rd) of his career. That is about average for him. It wasn’t that he had bad qualifying efforts. He averaged starting races around 16th, the second best of his career. Maybe it was a result of only finishing 20 of the 36 NASCAR Cup series races on the lead lap. Maybe it is that Martin Truex Jr tends to be ‘across the board a very erratic racer’.
Martin Truex Jr will be racing the #56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing in 2010. MWR drivers have made significant improvements during the 2009 NASCAR season. It will be interesting to see how the 2010 NASCAR season unfolds.
I’m sure expectations are high for Martin Truex Jr for the 2010 NASCAR season. There are many second tier drivers I would choose before picking Truex Jr though. He shines if he is grouped in your ‘C’ driver group, but probably not so much in your ‘B’ group. Don’t expect big things from Martin and you won’t be disappointed.
