The 2009 NASCAR season was a huge rebound for Kurt Busch. He finished out the season 4th in the points standings, a major improvement from his 18th place finish the year before. It seems that the #2 Miller Lite Penske Racing team has found the handle on the CoT. Kurt continued his seven-year streak of winning at least one race with two wins during the 2009 season. Race wins at Atlanta and Texas and an overall season record of 10 top-5’s and 21 top-10’s was his best since his NASCAR Championship in 2004.
Kurt Busch will no longer be teamed with veteran crew chief Pat Tryson for the 2010 NASCAR season. But, he will be teamed up with ousted Kyle Busch crew chief Steve Addington. Normally the acclimation curve is pretty steep between driver and crew chief, but I think this transition will be swift and great for Busch and Penske.
Kurt seems to have more bad luck then any other driver except maybe Greg Biffle (or Kevin Harvick’s 2009 season). Historically, he has proven to be an asset on my fantasy teams. Running him in the right races is the challenge. There are some tracks he consistently does well at. But others, he is up and down without rhyme or reason. If his last three races of the 2009 season are indicative of how he will start out 2010, then he is a good pick. Still, a new crew chief and the adjustment needed for that could play out for another up and down season for Busch.
