After a 2-year hiatus, Kasey Kahne made the Chase in 2009. In great part thanks to Roush Racing’s poor performance there was more room for the fan favorite Kahne to be in the running. Kahne did quite well getting himself in actually. He was firmly planted in the top-half of the twelve-driver field after the 26th race of the NASCAR season in Richmond. Kasey Kahne had two wins in 2009. Most impressive was his road course win at Sonoma. Prior to that, he had only scored as good as 14th on the road courses with many previous finishes of 30th or worse. Putting ‘The King’ in victory lane was sweet.

Kasey Kahne and his Richard Petty Motorsports teammates will all be driving Ford’s for the 2010 NASCAR season. Teammate AJ Allmendinger tested a RPM Ford at the final race in 2009 and finished a very good 10th. Plus, Kasey is participating in a Goodyear tire test at Auto Club Speedway December 15 & 16 2009. Every bit of practice and data in the Ford’s prior to the Daytona 500 is a boost for his team.

There are about 12 more reliable drivers then Kasey Kahne to have on your fantasy team. Depending on your draft, method of selection and total number of drivers you can select, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him not selected right off. I usually see Kahne get either A) picked up early by an ‘adoring fan’ or B) picked up off the ‘free agent’ list when a previous pick is not working out. Kahne will be shopping for a new ride the early part of 2010. Depending on the mood on his team about his desire to depart there might be a lot of instability in his performance as his impending departure breaks up the team unity. Pick Kahne at your own risk and especially according to how he fits into your overall game rules.
