2010 Fantasy NASCAR Draft Kit: Juan Pablo Montoya

Juan Pablo Montoya

Juan Pablo MontoyaThe merger of Chip Ganassi Racing and Dale Earnhardt Incorporated for the 2009 was good stuff for Juan Pablo Montoya. He had his best season of his three in NASCAR, besting previous season finishes of 20th and 25th with a solid 8th place finish. A 2nd place at Pocono, four 3rd place finishes (Atlanta, New Hampshire, Auto Club and Martinsville) and two more 4th place finishes put Montoya up front with the normal front-runners several times this last season.

Montoya is the only open wheel driver that survived the ‘open wheel to NASCAR fad’ of a few years ago. He seems committed to Chip Ganassi as a result of their history together. Plus, he looks to be staying put since his “contract is still a couple years, two, three, four, five, I don’t know. I’m not going to tell you actually how long is my contract.”

Fantasy NASCAR Forecast

I know I didn’t see the JPM train coming on as strong as he did in 2009. In my opinion I will want to see how the 2010 season starts out the first several races before declaring Juan Pablo Montoya another Chase contender as opposed to a ‘one hit wonder’. I want to believe good things for him and will be tempted to try him as a solid second round pick for at least one of my fantasy NASCAR teams.
