Joey Logano was hyped more than any driver in recent memory coming into the 2009 NASCAR season. His great performance in the Nationwide Series fueled the debate whether Logano was the greatest thing since ’sliced bread’ or just an over-hyped kid. Turns out he was both. Joey finished last in the season opening Daytona 500 and as hoped his performance did improve. At Talladega (the ninth race of the 2009 NASCAR season) Logano finished 9th. He got two more just like it during the next three races. And finally, a mother-nature gifted win at New Hampshire, to become the youngest winner (19 years old) in NASCAR Sprint Cup history.
Logano got his NASCAR ‘wreck experience’ card punched at the Cup race in Dover. He had one of the craziest wrecks seen on the high banks of Dover International Speedway.
Logano should continue to perform better in 2010. Intermediate tracks are safer bets for Joey. The short tracks and flat tracks, not so much. If Logano will listen to the advice that others want to share with him he could maybe begin to live up to the hype. After all, he does have a Championship winning crew chief to lead him along.
