Jeff Gordon had the best Average Finish stat for the 2009 season with a 10.2. But, with the Chase format, that no longer guarantees you the NASCAR Championship. Gordon snapped up the points lead after the third race of the season and held it for four weeks. He stretched his points lead out to 162 points ahead of the competition but a 37th place finish at Talladega gave Kurt Busch the edge.
Jeff Gordon’s back problems became the focus during the summer of the 2009 NASCAR season. Speculation about his possible retirement abounded. But, after treatment and exercise (and no more hard crashes) Gordon’s back seemed to get better and talk once again focused on his run for his fifth Sprint Cup Championship.
Having Jeff Gordon on your fantasy NASCAR team is always a plus. He has finished in the top-5 in the NASCAR points standings ten years of his 17 year career. In the top-10 in fifteen years of those years. He had 25 top-10 finishes in the 2009 NASCAR season. Pick Gordon. Put him on your active driver roster each week. Collect points. Simple as that.
