2010 Fantasy NASCAR Draft Kit: David Ragan

David Ragan

David RaganDavid Ragan had the worst performing year of his short NASCAR Sprint Cup career in 2009. All the fantasy NASCAR players that gleefully picked him at the start of the season finally gave up on Ragan after the 8th race of the season when he settled firmly in at 30th in the NASCAR point standings. David Ragan fans would wait all season waiting for the answer to “what David can do for you”. The answer for 2009 was: nothing. Ragan finished in the top-10 just two times the whole 2009 NASCAR season.

David Ragan gets a new crew chief for 2010. Donnie Wingo (former crew chief for Mears, Montoya, Sorenson & McMurray) will try to get the chemistry and cars right for David that didn’t happen with Jimmy Fennig during 2009.

Fantasy NASCAR Forecast

This is a crucial year for Ragan. Big sponsorship expectations and a terrible previous year will mean a lot of pressure to perform right out of the gate in Daytona. I was personally stung by picking Ragan on my fantasy team in 2009, so it is hard to be objective. Ryan Rantz, at ifantasyrace.com, is optimistic about David Ragan on restrictor plate and intermediate tracks. One thing I’m certain is that surely he can do better then 27th in 2010. But, bring value to your fantasy team? I’ll cast my vote as ‘no’.
