What can be written about Dale Earnhardt Jr’s 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season that hasn’t already been written? It was his lowest NASCAR point standings rank in his ten year full-time Cup Series career. Earnhardt Jr had five DNFs and finished on the lead lap in only 19 of the 36 regular Cup Series races. Ouch!
NASCAR fans fascination, both good and bad, with Dale Earnhardt Jr is the highest for any NASCAR driver. I thought one of the most insightful glimpses I’ve had into Dale Earnhardt Jr was his interview with Darrell Waltrip. Dale Jr is a guy with a lot on his plate. How will adding Danica to the mix effect things for 2010?
Don’t pick Dale Earnhardt Jr for your fantasy team simply because he is your favorite driver. Don’t pick him in the first round over the likes of his Hendrick Motorsports (and satellite HMS drivers with Stewart-Haas) teammates. But, I’ve got to believe that the #88 team with all the resources behind them will do better for 2010. Forget about his 2009 season and believe in him like it was 2008.
