To say that the 2009 NASCAR season for Carl Edwards was underrated is a huge understatement. Of course, when you have 9 wins the season before you are setting yourself up for very high expectations. Still, Carl only cracked the top 5 a mere seven times the whole season. Every time he rolled into a 1-1/2 mile track the collective NASCAR community thought this might be the race that Carl gets back in the game. Unfortunately, it never happened.
Carl Edwards team had some big problems on pit road most of the 2009 season and it no doubt hurt his finish position. They need to get it together for 2010.
I’m not willing to write Carl Edwards off because of one bad year. But, I’m not willing to continue to score low points on my fantasy team each week waiting for him to show me the points that he did in the 2008 season. On my 2010 fantasy draft games I’d probably pick him up as a second round pick and make sure my third round pick was still solid enough to alternate Edwards out of the lineup as needed. If your picking him from a group of A-list drivers there are better choices if you want to be conservative and safe. On a weekly Yahoo! pick rotation I’d try Edwards at his strong tracks on a track-by-track basis depending on the bigger picture of how Roush Racing is performing in 2010.
