AJ Allmendinger scores big points for many reasons in the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. The biggest being that he made all 36 races. The previous year, spent mostly with Red Bull Racing, Allmendinger was unable to qualify for nine of them. When Richard Petty Motorsports brought Allmendinger into the fold he was only promised six to eight races. After that it was completely up to finding sponsorship. AJ answered the call with 2 top-10 finishes in the first 7 races and holding on to the 15th position in the NASCAR point standings at that point. Allmendinger went on to bring home 4 more top-10s by the end of the year.
AJ Allmendinger is the fortunate recipient of the famous #43 NASCAR number for the 2010 season. I think that is a pretty solid endorsement by the King that the whole organization has some pretty high hopes for AJ.
AJ Allmendinger is getting more comfortable and adept each year. He could be a big surprise to many with continued excellence in 2010. AJ drove the new Yates build Ford chassis and engines the final 3 races of 2009 with solid results (10th, 13th & 10th). If you want to take a gamble with AJ as a darkhorse on one of your fantasy NASCAR league games you just might come out looking like a genius.
