Kyle Busch has to go to back-up car at Talladega

Talladega Superspeedway

With only 20 minutes left in practice #2 at Talladega Kyle Busch blew out his front right tire completely destroying the front right side his primary car. Kyle only had 12 laps on that set of tires. Speculation is that he ran over something as opposed to a true tire issue. Kyle will be using his back-up car for the race. The #18 team were able to get the back-up car out and run the last five minutes of practice.

Denny Hamlin says new pressure relief valve rule will make no difference

Talladega Superspeedway

Denny Hamlin ran 25 laps in the first practice at Talladega and is 24th on the speed chart. Afterwards he said the new pressure relief valve change NASCAR implemented to lower the boiling point of radiator temperature has already been overcome by the Cup teams. He says we'll see no change in the two-car racing that we've seen the last few plate races.

Joey Logano has four top-5 finishes at Talladega in his five career Cup races here. His average finish position is 12.6 and his median is 9th over these five. Logano finished 10th in the Aaron's 499 at Talladega earlier this year and 3rd in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona this summer.

Clint Bowyer runs up-front at Talladega with great results

Talladega Superspeedway

Clint Bowyer is just behind RCR teammate Kevin Harvick in average finish position over the last three Talladega races with an average finish of 3.3 to Harvick's 2.7. But, over the last four Bowyer takes the prize with an average of 5.5 which is the best of all drivers. Clint's approach to Talladega is of the stay-up-front philosophy as noted in his lap-by-lap charts for the Aaron's 499 external site earlier this year where he finished 2nd and the AMP Energy Juice 500 external site last fall which he won.
