Qualifying Was Key Factor to Brad Keselowski's Success in 2011

Daytona International Speedway

Brad Keselowski's ability to consistently qualify better during the 2011 NASCAR season was key to his incredible improvement last year. Brad jumped from 25th in driver points in 2010 to 5th in 2011. Historically, Keselowski finishes the race close to where he starts. 2009 average start 23.3 and average finish 21.5. 2010 average start 23.0 and average finish 22.4. 2011 average start 14.4 and average finish 14.8. Brad scored major points in 2011 over 2010 on these better starts on the 1.5-mile+ tracks (which make up 24 of the 36 races). On the 1.5-milers his 2010 average start was 23.9 and average finish was 22.4. In 2011 his average start on the 1.5-milers was 12.9 and average finish was 13.2. On the 2+ mile tracks he went from 2010 average start 20.5 and average finish of 25.3 to 2011 average start of 18.3 and average finish of 16.8.

The big question of can Brad Keselowski repeat his 2011 performance in 2012 may just depend on his qualifying success.
