Matt Kenseth is Mr. Consistency at Texas

Matt Kenseth

Except for a couple minor blemishes Matt Kenseth is by far a model of consistently good finishes at Texas Motor Speedway. No matter how you slice it Kenseth's record at Texas points to a strong finish this weekend and many points for his Chase hopes and fantasy NASCAR owners alike. Over his career of 18 races at TMS Kenseth has 2 wins, 9 top-5's, 12 top-10's and 17 top-20's. His career average finish is 9th and his median is 5.5. Matt is not a big lap-leader here (except for his run here this spring where he led 169 of them).

Matt Kenseth set to gain most on Chasers at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Matt Kenseth

Looking at the last two Chase races at Charlotte Motor Speedway Matt Kenseth has scored on average 41-points per race (using NASCAR's new point system). Only Jimmie Johnson has outscored him with 45-points. Kyle Busch averages 40-points during the same two. Next nearest Chasers are Kevin Harvick and Jeff Gordon each with an average 31.5 points. If numbers hold true (do they ever really?) Kenseth could gain points on the other Chasers but still be separated from Johnson whose averages would put him as the points leader coming out of Charlotte.

Matt Kenseth Starting Up Front Usually Ends Well

Matt Kenseth

Winning the pole at Chicagoland for Sunday's race is Matt Kenseth's 9th time starting from the pole in 426 starts. In the eight previous races he started from the pole he has four top-5's (50%) and six top-10's (75%). The five races this season that Matt has started from a 5th place or better position Matt has two top-5's and four top-10's. His worst finish from a top-5 start this season is 11th. The general rule is that if Matt is starting a race upfront then you know he is really good.

Matt Kenseth very happy with car in final practice at Chicagoland

Matt Kenseth

Matt Kenseth and his #17 team are very, very happy with their car in Happy Hour at Chicagoland Speedway. Spending last 20 minutes of practice just tinkering with the car because overall it is pretty darn good.
