Saturday Night Racing At Texas Motor Speedway

Jeff Gutowski Yahoo League

Martinsville was a very good week for most fantasy teams in Jeff Gutowski’s Yahoo Fantasy Racing Challenge league. 17 teams within 100-points of 1st after six races into the 2012 NASCAR season. Jeff plays as FantasyRacingCheatSheet.com

A very good week for the majority of the people in my Yahoo fantasy league. Now we can all take a week off before we have to figure out who we want to start in the next Sprint Cup race. The series is taking a week off for the Easter holiday. After that it is off to Texas Motor Speedway and the running of the Samsung Mobile 500.

Samsung Mobile 500

Matt Kenseth: Matt is my pick to win the race at Texas when the series resumes after this week’s layoff. Matt won this race last season and has finished in the top 5 here in nine of his last thirteen starts at this track. He has been very good on the intermediate tracks this season also.

Greg Biffle: Greg leads the 2012 NASCAR point standings after six races and he will give Matt a run for his money next weekend. Greg won here back in 2005 and is on a roll at Texas with a streak of seven straight top-ten finishes here. The Roush teams seem to have a lot of power this season.

Tony Stewart: Tony has had an excellent start to his season and won the race here last fall. He has never been known to run well this early in the season before and it looks like he will have a very good chance of defending his title. He should be in contention late in this race.

Denny Hamlin: Denny has had an on again off again season so far this year. He won both of the races here during the 2010 season and should be a factor once again this year. He needs to have a good run at an intermediate track to build this teams confidence.

Jimmie Johnson: Jimmie runs pretty well here but, he doesn’t lead a lot of laps or win many races here. He currently has one win here which is a bit surprising to me in that he does so well on similar tracks. Now that Chas Knaus’ suspension has been overturned this team has nothing to worry about.

Carl Edwards: Carl was very good here last season finishing 3rd in the spring and 2nd in the fall race. He always seems to qualify well and leads laps in almost every race here. He needs a good run to get a little momentum going on this team.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. : Dale currently resides in second place in the standings only six points behind Greg Biffle. He has had a good run almost every week and has come close to winning a couple of times this year. I don’t think that this will be the week that he breaks into the win column because the Roush teams are just too strong here but I could be wrong.

Kevin Harvick: Kevin has had a great season so far and runs fairly well at Texas. He has never won here but, he has finished in the top-10 in five of his last nine starts. The week off should help this team regroup after a disappointing finish at Martinsville last week.

Clint Bowyer: Clint has had an outstanding start to his season with Michael Waltrip Racing. He has finished in the top-10 in six of his last eight starts at Texas and all of the MWR teams have looked very good this season. He should make the Chase this season and will win at least one race.

Kasey Kahne: If any team needed a week-off to regroup it is this team. They came into the season with high expectations and they are very disappointed right now in their performance. This could be a breakout race for this team. He always seems to qualify well and this year he has a team with a car very capable of winning this race.
